# Restrict a brain to certain people

A brain is open to everyone in your organisation until you restrict it.
A restricted brain can only be reached by the people you list and by the
owner. For everyone else it isn't there: not in **Knowledge**, in
search, in chat, in Slack, or through a connected app.

## Restrict a brain

You need to be an admin who is on the brain, or the owner.

1. Go to **Settings** and select **Brain access**.
2. Find the brain and select **Change**.
3. Choose **Only the people I choose**.
4. Under **Who can reach it**, tick the people who should have it. Keep
at least one admin on the list.
5. Select **Save**.

The brain now shows **Restricted**.

People keep the brain role they have everywhere else. This setting
decides who can reach the brain, not what they can do in it.

## Things to know

- The org-wide brain can't be restricted. It's part of every
conversation, so it stays open to everyone.
- A routine whose owner isn't on the list pauses until someone on the
  list takes it over.
- Proposals and routine results for a restricted brain aren't posted to
  your Slack channel.
- Opening the brain to everyone again keeps your list, so restricting it
later brings back the same people.
