# Create your organisation

If someone has invited you to their organisation by email, you don't need this page. Open the invite and choose a password, and you're in.

As of 2026-10-14, signing up needs an invite code.

## Sign up

1. Open **Create your account**, at app.useako.com.
2. Enter your **Invite code**, your **Work email** and a **Password**. If your invite came as a link, the code is filled in for you.
3. Select **Create account**.
4. Open the confirmation link ako emails you. It takes you straight to setting up your organisation.

## Create the organisation

1. Under **Create your organization**, enter the **Organization name**. The short name used in links is filled in from it. Change it if you like: lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens.
2. Choose how to start:
   - **Bring what we already have**: import markdown files you already have, from your computer or a GitHub repository. ako suggests which go in the org-wide brain and which teams get a brain of their own.
   - **Start fresh**: answer a few questions and ako sets up your first brain.
3. Select **Create org & bring your knowledge**, or **Create org & set up your first brain** if you're starting fresh.

Your organisation is created at this step, with its org-wide brain. It already has folders for decisions, people and ground truth.

## Set up your first brains

If you're bringing what you already have, ako opens the import next. Follow [Bring what you already have](/getting-started/bring-what-you-already-have). Importing this way needs a plan: if you don't have one yet, ako sends you to **Settings → Billing** first.

If you started fresh, ako opens the new brain setup. Follow [Create a brain](/brains/create-a-brain) from step 2.

Either way, you land in **Knowledge** when you're done.
