# Linear

With Linear connected, the assistant can read issues, their status and who they're assigned to. It can also create an issue when someone asks in a chat. It checks with you first, and records in the issue who asked. Routines can read issues, but never create, edit or close them.

ako can't see anything the connected Linear account can't see.

## Connect Linear for your organisation

An admin does this. Use a Linear account set up for your organisation, not your personal one, because everyone's chats will use it.

1. Go to **Settings**, then **Connections**, and open **Linear**.
2. Either select **Connect with Linear** and sign in to that account, or paste a **Linear API key** and select **Connect**.
3. Select **Test connection**. You should see "Connection is working."

ako checks an API key with Linear before saving it, then encrypts it. It's never shown again.

## Connect your own Linear account

Members can also connect their own Linear account, so the assistant acts as them in Linear. Select **Connections** in the sidebar, then connect Linear under **Your accounts**.

When you have your own connection, your chats use it. Otherwise they use the organisation's. Routines always use the organisation's.

## Choose what agents may do

Under **What agents may do** on the Linear connection page, an admin sets access separately **In chats** and **In routines**: **No access**, **Read only**, or **Read and write**. By default, chats can read and write and routines can only read. Select **Save**. The change applies from the next chat or run.

## Use Linear in a chat

Ask in your own words, for example "What's open on the onboarding project?" or "File a bug for the broken export button and assign it to me". To keep Linear out of one conversation, switch it off under **+** beside the message box.

For a routine to use Linear, tick it under **Connections this routine may use** when you [create the routine](/assistant/schedule-a-routine).
