# Connect Claude and other AI apps

Claude, and any other app that supports MCP, can read and write your brains as you. Every app connects to the same address:

```
https://api.useako.com/connect/mcp
```

There's no API key to copy. You approve the connection on ako's own screen, and you can revoke it at any time.

As of 2026-10-14, connecting other apps to ako is in beta.

## Claude.ai

1. In Claude.ai, go to **Settings**, then **Connectors**.
2. Select **Add custom connector** and paste the address.
3. Select **Connect**. Claude sends you to ako.
4. [Approve the connection](#approve-the-connection).

You're back in Claude, and Claude can use your brains in any chat.

A Claude workspace admin can add the connection for everyone, but each person still approves it for themselves. Nobody gets anyone else's access.

## Claude Desktop

1. Open **Settings**, then **Connectors**.
2. Select **Add custom connector** and paste the address.
3. Approve the connection in the browser window that opens.

## Claude Code

Run:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http ako https://api.useako.com/connect/mcp
```

Then type `/mcp` in Claude Code, choose **ako**, and select **Authenticate**. Approve the connection in your browser.

## Cursor and other MCP clients

Any client that supports streamable HTTP with OAuth takes the address directly:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "ako": { "url": "https://api.useako.com/connect/mcp" }
  }
}
```

## ChatGPT

1. Turn on **developer mode** in ChatGPT's settings.
2. Under **Connectors**, add a new one and paste the address.
3. Approve the connection when ChatGPT sends you to ako.

## Approve the connection

ako shows you which app is asking and what it will be able to do.

1. If you belong to more than one organisation, choose the **Organisation**.
2. Under **How much of it**, choose:
   - **Whole organisation**: recommended. The app works from your org-wide brain and can look into any other brain you can read, so it can answer questions that span teams.
   - **One brain only**: the app sees that brain and can't name another, not even to list them. Use this for an app you use on one project.
3. Select **Approve**.

The app now appears under **Connected apps** in **Settings**, **Connections**.

## What a connected app can do

A connected app acts as you, with your permissions and never more. If your role is Read, it can't write. A change to a protected folder is sent for approval, exactly as it is in the app. Every change is recorded against your name and the app.

It can search and read your brains, write changes and send them for approval, list your organisation's [skills](/assistant/add-a-skill), and suggest new brains and routines for a person to confirm. It also follows each brain's `AGENTS.md`.

## See and revoke connected apps

Go to **Settings**, then **Connections**, and find **Connected apps**. Each app shows what it can reach and when it was last used. Select **Revoke** to disconnect one. It loses access on its next request.

You see your own apps. Admins and the owner see everyone's.
