# Add your own MCP server

If a service you use has an MCP server, an admin can connect it, and the assistant can use its tools in chats.

## Add the server

1. Go to **Settings**, then **Connections**, and find **Add an MCP server by URL**.
2. Enter a **Name**, such as "Acme Tools". Its short form becomes the prefix on every tool the server adds.
3. Enter the **Server URL**.
4. If the server needs one, enter an access token. If it can't register ako by itself, ako asks for a client id and secret.
5. Select **Test and add**.

The server now appears under **Organisation connections**. Adding it switches nothing on.

## Choose its tools

1. Open the server's connection page.
2. Under **Tools**, tick the tools the assistant may use. Each one says whether it only reads or can change things.
3. Select **Save tools**.

Only the tools you switch on are available. Anything the server adds later stays off until you switch it on. Select **Re-check** to see new tools.
